My dad retired on Friday, after nearly 49 years with the same company. We all tromped out to Iowa to be there for his retirement party, which was rather entertaining. It was a full house, as employees past and present recounted stories and in general said what a great, stand-up guy my dad has been at work. Nothing we all didn't already know, but nice to hear nonetheless.
I can't imagine what it feels like for him to be retired, since we're all still absorbing it. But, as someone wisely said to me at his party "It'll take a year for him to adjust, and after that, he'll wonder how he ever had time to work!"
