Bottle-Cap Museum and Dawson & Stevens Classic 50's Diner

Grayling doesn't have much of a main street (hey, kind of like Dexter!), but what is there is nice and quaint. We read about this place on the Michigan tourism website, and saw it was open, so we met Uncle Bob and Aunt Sue there on the Sunday before Labor Day.

It did not disappoint. Inside, it looks like a '50s diner (at least I think so, not having been around in the '50s). They had a bar with a soda fountain, really. With an extensive soda, phosphate, and shake menu, which I love. And of course, some diner food.

The "bottle cap museum" moniker brought to mind a huge display case full of thousands of unique bottle caps. Best I can tell, there were some huge novelty plastic coke bottles full of bottle caps on top of the mirror at the back of the soda fountain, and that was it. The "museum" part was really one of the diner's walls, which held lots of Coca-Cola memorabilia.

Anyway, the soda were wonderful, the food was good, the Coke stuff was interesting, and all-in-all it was quite pleasant.

Owen decided he was going to consume his shake in one gigantic slurp, so that was a hit. We made the mistake of letting the kids pick their own souvenir, which didn't work out well. Sophie ended up with a spoon and Owen a keychain.

Owen checks out the collection.

The place filled up quick after we sat down, and the bar was mostly taken up by one clan, in which every male member was clad in a black heavy metal / hair band t-shirt.

Owen attempting to inhale his shake. Either he is immune from brain freeze, or he kind of likes it.

Hey! There's cute chicks at this place!
