Zoo - Giraffe feeding

So the ability to feed the giraffes up close is what drew us to this zoo on this particular day. Last time we were here, we watched other people do it, but we (Sophie) were too scared.

Unfortunately, Sophie again chickened out, but Owen stepped up to the plate. He actually did quite well for the first cracker(not captured on film). This cracker, he was a little skittish, but mission accomplished.

It's pretty amazing to see the giraffes so up close. They stick out their (very) long black tongues as soon as they know you've got a cracker, and you pretty much just stick the cracker on their tongues and the transaction is done. Getting a couple of head pats in requires tag-teaming the beast, which we were not set up to do. But we managed to stuff four crackers down their gullets, so we had fun. It's my favorite interactive zoo thing ever.
